Robotic Vacuum Cleaners - Written by Cody Mudge

I apologize in advance for any brutally awful puns made throughout this blog post, I'm sure those jokes will suck, but I thought that this week we could take a look at robotic vacuum cleaners. There’s been a lot of concern over automation in the last couple of decades, and rightfully so, a massive economic shift has meant many factories and manufacturers need significantly fewer human laborers to produce their product. But automation at home can alleviate workloads just as robots can in the factory.

On today’s roads, the vast majority of accidents can be attributed to driver error. However, in the years to come,  many if not all of the cars on the road will be autonomous vehicles. While this has benefits for Canada’s road system such as a reduction in traffic congestion and a decrease in injuries and fatalities resulting from collisions, it leaves questions as to how these autonomous vehicles can be insured.

Why DIY? - Written by Cody Mudge

What are the chances that most of you reading this blog aren’t a tech wizard? Forgive me for assuming but there’s no shame in not knowing what “memory” means when discussing computer specs. After all, what would guys like me do if we didn’t have people to help out? With that in mind, I’d like to make a suggestion that many of you may not have considered before, or perhaps one that you’ve thought about, but felt a certain sense of apprehension over. That suggestion is a simple one: do it yourself.

THE ADD L+FE - TV's in 2017 - The latest and greatest - Written by Cody Mudge

When I worked in tech TV’s were my bread and butter. Home audio is probably the only thing that fascinates me more, but TV’s have a kind of technology sex appeal. They’re kind of like cars, new models release every year, they’re flashy and exciting no matter how much you know about them, new features make sets from a couple years before effectively irrelevant and innovation is driven by rabid market competition. So where home audio is stable, the tech behind it really hasn’t fundamentally changed in decades, but televisions are ripe for increasingly systematic change every single year. We’re halfway through April, which means we’re in a good space to discuss what’s new in TV’s this year as new models will be hitting Big Box stores, and Amazon, very soon and “old” 2016 models will be clearance priced to make room for the latest and greatest from Sony, Samsung and LG.

Invariably there are two questions that people ask upon learning the basics of what a smart lock is: will it make my house safer, which is rapidly followed by, why do I want one? In my experience these questions usually come in this order. But in order to explain why, let’s back-up a step and determine what is meant by the term “smart lock.”

Counting Sheep - Written by Cody Mudge

We’ve discussed a lot of interesting topics and pieces of tech in the last few months, but this week we’re going to talk about maybe the most surprising piece of smart tech hitting the market. And maybe it shouldn’t be surprising, since so much of our life revolves around it, but not only do many of us take it for granted, few of us would consider how adding smart capabilities to something like this could be beneficial. Thankfully, folks like those at ReST have set out to improve the way we sleep and think about a bed.

Nintendo's Switch - Written by Cody Mudge

Horrible pun incoming…this week I wanted to switch up what we’ve been talking about. We’ve delved into a lot of burgeoning smart technologies of late and I thought that now was a good a time as any to take a break from that. Which is great timing because it coincides with the release of Nintendo’s latest console, the Switch. So, we’ll briefly outline what the Switch is and then muse about the future the device can expect, some of the benefits to consumers and the hurdles it will have to overcome.
